May 2014 update

What I’ve been up to on a professional footing over the last few months…

Lecturing

I’ve finished teaching at the Universities of Salford and Sunderland, with only marking remaining. Over this academic year I’ve taught around 300 students at three universities and eight modules.

Liverpool

I’ve edited The City Tribune over April and May, it’s a new publication whose first edition covers the International Festival of Business in Liverpool during Summer 2014. Read it here. Interview here.

I’m currently revamping my city guide to what’s on in Liverpool, Liverpool Underlined.

Automotive

I’ve recorded two PetrolPod podcasts with Gavin Braithwaite-Smith. The latter was recorded at the SMMT driving day at Millbrook in May.

I’ve written a four-page special feature on cars and gadgets in the fleet sector for Professional Manager Magazine, the official mag of the Chartered Management Institute. I’ve had a number of press cars on review, including the Peugeot 2008, Peugeot 308, Nissan Qashqai, Suzuki Swift and Citroen DS3.

Miscellaneous

I’ve contributed several articles to All About History magazine, the most recent of which was on the fall of the Aztec civilisation, the front page splash – finally the A/S Level in Archaeology came in handy.

I’ve also written articles on Richard Nixon, Jack The Ripper and the birth of Hollywood for the magazine.

October 2013 update

My first book, called Fast Cars, is out this month, published by Igloo Publishing. It’s a rundown of a 100-or-so of the fastest production cars ever made. I wrote it in two weeks earlier this year.

SevenStreets.com – the site I co-edit – is publishing the Almanac – a monthly print publication in Liverpool concerning food, drink, culture, entertainment and life in Liverpool.

I’m teaching News and Feature Writing at the Media, Arts and Design school of the University of Westminster. I’m teaching MA students.

I’m not lecturing at the University of Sunderland this semester but am currently scheduled to teach there next semester. In Semester 2 this year I taught social media to first year and MA students; plus Magazine Production to 2nd-years students.

I’m currently slated to teach digital media at the University of Salford in Semester 2.

I write a quarterly column for Professional Manager Magazine, the official publication of the Chartered Management Institute, on cars for the fleet sector. I also write all of the publication’s car reviews.

The latest PetrolPod podcast is up. I recorded it with Gravin Braithwaite-Smith at the launch of the Vauxhall Insignia in Munich last month.
